Volleyball Lock-in ends in Huge Upset

This year’s volleyball lock-in, hosted by the Peer Mediators, was one for the ages.  For only costing seven dollars to get in, every one who attended got their money’s worth.  Two-time champions Three-Peat looked to do exactly what their name said, win the lock-in for the thir year in a row.  This year however, the field was as competitive as its ever been.  Teams like Off Together in the Woods, RLB, Over one Billion Served, Already Lost, Flipadelphia, and the up and coming squad Rock Boyz all posed a threat.  Senior Brian O’ Gara said, “This year the competition was the best I’ve ever seen.”

When the playoffs started, Off Together suffered an early 20-19 loss in the second round and went home disappointed.  Junior Matt Falcetta, who was a member of Off Together said, “The loss was tough, and I’m heated that the other team did not have to win by two.” All other teams looked strong until Flipadelphia lost to Three-Peat in the quarterfinals.  The Rock Boyz torched their side of the bracket and cruised to the finals.  Three-Peat and Over One Billion Served met in the semifinals in the other half of the bracket.  It was a long tough game, but in the upset of the decade, Over One Billion Served came out on top.
Over One Billion Served led by Justin Lipe, Kevin Anton, and Austin West did not have enough firepower to overtake the young, motivated squad of the Rock Boyz.  Vince Desilets, Alex Caine, and Tavi Kelly played strong all night long and kept their stamina up throughout the long and grinding seven hour tournament.
The Rock Boyz look to be the favorite for next year, but hopefully the competition is just as strong which will make another great tournament.
